This issue celebrates Philippe Cramer, a Geneva-based artist-designer who grants us an exclusive interview in the heart of his studio. Heir to a lineage in which art is passed on like second nature, from Max Ernst and Dorothea Tanning, hosted by his grandparents in Geneva, to his father, who was close to Andy Warhol's Factory, he learned early on to "look at things, and not merely to see them".
Trained in design at the Parsons School of Design in New York, from 2001 he made the bold choice of self-publishing, producing furniture and objects from his Geneva studio. From his first iconic light, the Randogne, to his sculptures, jewellery and paintings, a single conviction runs through his work: to create pieces that are at once accessible and magical, deeply connected to those who live with them. Between natural materials and pop colours, fine craftsmanship and artificial intelligence, he builds bridges between eras, a free, outward-looking vision of beauty that echoes the form of luxury BARNES stands for: understated, sincere and authentic.
