The canton of Geneva

Located at the far west of Switzerland, at the end of Lake Geneva, the Canton of Geneva shares over 90% of its borders with France.

The main characteristic of this canton and city is the homogeneous blend between a medium-sized city with a large international reputation, on the one hand, and an unspoiled countryside with its villages and vineyards, located no more than 15 km from the city center, on the other hand.

As the second largest city in Switzerland with a population of around 200,000, Geneva is regarded as a dream spot around the world for its unique location on the biggest lake in Western Europe offering a spectacular view of the famous Jet d'Eau and Mont Blanc, the highest peak in Europe, but also for its central location in the heart of Europe.

Geneva: a Global City

Due to its open cultural, social and economic character, Geneva is known as a global city. Although it has the bustle of a big city, Geneva also offers an excellent quality of life, continuing to attract a Swiss and international population eager for contrasts. A strong Swiss franc, economic stability and unrivaled quality of life make this lakeside city a major economic hub. Thanks to its international airport with connections to all European capitals, Geneva is one of the most sought-after cities in the world.

Capital of peace, home to the Red Cross and the European headquarters of the United Nations, thanks to its exceptional history and international character, Geneva is a lively cosmopolitan city with 40% of its population from outside Switzerland. Over 140 multinationals have already established themselves in Geneva, as well as 36 international organizations, over 300 non-governmental organizations and 200 diplomatic missions.

Geneva reaches high scores in all international rankings regarding business locations. For the international, European and EMEA (Europe, Middle-East and Africa) headquarters of global companies, Geneva provides a number of advantages, among which an attractive tax system, an easily accessible location in the heart of Europe, a complete set of business-support services, a highly-skilled, multilingual and stable workforce, a business-friendly government and an outstanding quality of living.

In the center of Geneva, the Old Town, the Russian Church area, Champel, Florissant, Malagnou and the quays, including Quai Gustave Ador on the left bank and Quai Wilson on the right bank, are among the most sought-after residential areas.

South of the Rhone and the Arve Rivers, the town of Carouge is the 'Little Italy' of Geneva, and the towns of Avusy, Veyrier or Troinex offer the countryside only a few kilometers from the city center.

Located on the right bank of the Rhone and the lake are a number of wine-growing towns such as Satigny, the largest wine-growing town in Switzerland, and the towns of BellevueGenthod and Versoix, which are close to the lake in the direction the Canton of Vaud.

The Left Bank includes the lakeside towns of ColognyCollonge-BelleriveCorsierAnières and Hermance; the traditional residential towns of Chêne-BougeriesConchesChêne-Bourg and Vandoeuvres; as well as the 'countryside' towns of Jussy, Choulex and Presinge.
